Project Street Style
/For those of you who might be new here, Project Run and Play is a sewing competition that I entered a few years ago. It is basically a children’s fashion sewing competition with themes and weekly eliminations. It is a TON of work, but so much fun!
Since my season of competition, things have changed a bit. They have been doing some collaborations between designers. I guess that is sort of the opposite, eh? Anyway, it is pretty exciting to see how everyone can work together on a fun sewing-related project!
This past summer I was part of a fabric collaboration. We designed an apparel fabric line with the theme Project Nature Adventure. (I think there is still a little bit of fabric still available in the shop HERE!) Again, it was a TON of work, but so much fun!
Project Run and Play’s latest collaboration is a new pattern collection called Project Street Style. Of course, as with all of their collaborations, a fun look book was created to showcase some ideas for things that can be created using the collection.
I helped out with this new pattern collection by testing the Stoplight Skirts and Easy Street Tee.
For our Project Street Style look book photo shoot I could think of no better place than a fun, local playground with a kid-sized replica of the main street in town. My girls had fun ducking in and out of the little faux shops, performing on the stage, and then climbing all over the playground equipment. You can definitely see that the clothes are perfectly comfortable for playing hard!
I loved being able to capture a glimpse of their childhood and we definitely made some fun memories to match their fun, new outfits!
Now for some sewing details:
The red maxi is the Full Stop view- it has such a lovely flared shape at the bottom that is perfect for swishing around when you use a nice, drapey fabric.
The yellow and blue skirts are the She’s a Caution view. They are an a-line shape that feature a fun, ruched detail on one side.
I made three Girl on the Go pencil skirts- green, black with stars, and pink and black floral. These are such a crisp design and the side panel is perfect for color blocking!
I also made a few different Easy Street tees. They have a cuff ( no hemming on the short sleeve version! Hooray!) and a high low hem (girls’ version). I really want to make some of these in a sweater knit fabric!
There are seven patterns in the entire Project Street Style collection. You can get them as a bundle for a big savings! There is enough variety included to make a capsule wardrobe.
