Bonfire Hoodie

I don’t know what the weather is like where you live, but here it has been hot and dry! I will gladly take it over the soggy fall we had last year ( with flooding, mold, etc.). We have barely needed long sleeves at all this September! have been finishing up a few of my sewing commitments and one of them was pattern testing this new hooded sweatshirt for Sofiona Designs. So now I sort of feel like I am ahead of things since the cooler weather hasn’t arrived yet!

They named it Bonfire, which is just perfect for picturing cool fall evenings around the campfire toasting marshmallows.

The new Sofiona Designs Bonfire hoodie pairs perfectly with the Rocky Shore tights!

I am not going to tell you that this was an easy sewing project. It is fairly involved, but that is because it has so many great details (and my daughter wanted ALL the options!) There is a line of optional trim across the front and back, a hidden pocket, and thumb hole cuffs. I could have added drawstrings, but I never told her about those. #momistired

The new Bonfire sewing pattern has thumb hole cuffs!
I love the pop of color in the lined hood for this Sofiona Designs Bonfire!

I used microfleece from the Joann clearance aisle and lined it with an upcycled tank top from Dollar Tree. So the whole thing cost less than $4 to make. I just happened to have a Joann remnant in my stash that matched the blue perfectly, so I whipped up a pair of Rocky Shore tights to match! I just love how the different angles and lines play off of each other!

Sofiona Designs patterns have such clean lines! I love this Bonfire hoodie with Rocky Short tights!

I will also note that the first Bonfire I made (still not finished) used polar fleece lined in Doodles knit. It is incredibly cozy, but some of the seams are super duper thick! I actually broke a needle on my overlock machine, but I was also sewing at midnight and probably not on top of my game. So be careful! (I actually wear safety glasses when I sew, especially if I am sewing something thick. #ihavehorrorstories)

I also found it helpful to use my washaway Wonder tape to baste some of the pieces together so they wouldn’t shift when I was sewing multiple layers together.

The Bonfire is on sale through September 29 and you can get it HERE. The discount automatically applies when you put it in the cart and if you live here in the United States you get a great exchange rate because they are Canadian!

If you want some more details you can visit their blog HERE for a full discussion on the pattern!
