Crochet Triangle Fringe Shawl Pattern

I had the opportunity to work with the new Art Gallery Fabrics line, Hypernature. It is a bright and beautiful line of botanical inspired designs. I chose the Lush Foliage Vivid rayon to sew an Evergreen skirt for my daughter and it is absolutely stunning! To coordinate I sewed an Indigo top with a lengthened bodice using Camouflage jersey knit solid. You can read more about it on the Project Run and Play blog and you can see the rest of the collection in the Art Gallery Fabrics Hypernature lookbook.

I sewed a hair tie with the scraps but still wanted one more accessory to complete the ensemble. I haven’t crocheted in awhile and it was a nice winter project. I put on a movie and curled up on the couch with a soft blanket and a cup of coffee. Since I ended up doing my own thing, I thought I would share the pattern here. It is super easy and all you need to know how to do is chain and double crochet!

Triangle Crochet Fringe Shawl Tutorial

Crochet Triangle Fringe Shawl

  • Medium weight yarn- one skein for kids size/two skeins for adult size

  • Size K crochet hook

I used Lion’s Brand Vanna’s Choice yarn in the color Fisherman.

  • dc = double crochet

  • ch = chain

  • sp = space

  • sk = skip

Row 1: Make a magic circle. ch 3, 3dc, ch 3, 4dc and pull the loose end of the yarn to create a semicircle.

Row 2: Turn and ch 3. dc in last dc, dc in next 3 dc, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch 3 sp, dc in next 3 dc, 2dc in 3rd ch of the ch3 of the previous row.

Row 3: Turn and ch 3. dc in last dc, dc in next 6 dc, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch 3 sp, dc in next 6 dc, 2dc in 3rd ch of the ch3 of the previous row.

Row 4: Turn and ch 3. dc in last dc, dc in next 9 dc, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch 3 sp, dc in next 9 dc, 2dc in 3rd ch of the ch3 of the previous row.

Row 5: Turn and ch 3. dc in last dc, dc in next 12 dc, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch 3 sp, dc in next dc, 2dc in 3rd ch of the ch3 of the previous row.

Row 6: Turn and ch 3, dc in last dc, (ch 1, sk next dc, dc in following dc) repeat until reaching the ch 3 sp, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch 3 sp, (dc in next dc, ch 1, sk next dc) repeat until reaching the end of the row, 2dc in 3rd ch of the ch3 of the previous row.

Row 6: Turn and ch 3, dc in last dc, dc in next dc, (dc in ch1 sp, dc in next dc) repeat until reaching the ch 3 sp, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch 3 sp, dc in next dc, (dc in ch1 sp, dc in next dc) repeat until reaching the end, 2dc in 3rd ch of the ch3 of the previous row.

Repeat Rows 5 and 6 until the shawl reaches the desired length.

To create fringes, cut yarn to 8 inch lengths. Insert hook into the top of dc on the last row, pull the center of the fringe yarn through the top of the dc. Use the hook to pull both ends through the loop over the top of the dc. Pull to tighten. This is similar to making a latch hook rug.
