Fruit Scented Playdough
/One of my children is very particular about textures. She loves all things soft and squishy! Slime is still banned in this house (I am a mean mom!) so for her, playdough is the next best thing.
She also likes to add different scents to our playdough. I usually just make one batch and we separate it into smaller bowls to add the color and scents. For our latest batch, we made a fruity, summery collection. Here is what we used:
Red- strawberry candy flavoring
Orange- orange essential oil
Yellow- lemon essential oil
Green- cucumber melon fragrance
Blue- peppermint essential oil
Peppermint is not really in the fruit theme, but we were using what we had on hand. Plus, for some reason peppermint is one of her favorite playdough scents.
Here is the playdough recipe that we use:
Homemade Playdough
1 cup flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/3 cup salt
1 cup water
1 Tbsp. vegetable oil (can substitute other oils)
Mix dry ingredients in medium saucepan. Add wet ingredients and cook over medium-low, stirring constantly with a fork until mixture begins to thicken and stick together. It takes about 5 minutes. At this point food coloring and scents may be added, if desired. Cool for a few minutes and knead well.
Store in a sealed bag or air-tight container.
