Prose & Poetry Pattern Remix Challenge

I followed Project Run and Play from nearly the beginning and they used to have a Pattern Remix Challenge. Sometimes it was a weekly theme during competitions and sometimes it was a monthly challenge open to the public. We love pattern hacking so Liesel and I decided to bring it back and kick off this new competition by going first to show everyone how it works. We let the Facebook group vote on which pattern we should use and they chose the Prose & Poetry Cargo Joggers. There are already so many options with the pattern that I had a hard time deciding but ended up settling on creating an overall skirt/skirtall/jumper.

I shortened the skirt pieces by an inch and extended the top upwards using the shape of the Jonagold Jumper, shortened at the top. I cut both pieces on the fold instead of creating separate pieces and sewed a faux flat felled seam. The hipline pockets used one layer stitched on top of the skirt and I moved a cargo pocket to the center of the front bodice. The top was lined with red gingham cotton and then the sides were sewn. Finally, I added more topstitching, a hem, and cute cow buttons for the front.

I overlapped and sandwiched the straps on an angle between the back and lining, which took a bit of trial and error. The back pockets are unchanged, but I added topstitching to look like rolling fields with some sheep hand embroidery. Oh, and of course I added a few Shine Bright labels- Free Range Farm kid on the back center and Auntie Made on the skirt side seam.

I layered a red poly spandex short sleeve Lagoon top underneath. I also used some gingham scraps and sized (Rain)Bows down a little for her pigtails. It was pretty much the perfect farm girl look!
