Upcycled Spring Decor Collection

I don’t share a whole lot here about our vendor space at Sunbury Station, but my brother and I create upcycled home decor and gifts to sell there. He is a metal artist and I create a lot of random pieces. Usually, I get inspiration from a specific theme and make a “collection” of items to display cohesively. This spring it was all about bees, butterflies, and flowers…

I made a few floral décor pieces like this one with faux lavender in an old wood spindle. It has a bow made of antique, handmade lace.

An old flour sifter floral arrangement would look really nice in a kitchen. I kept the florals white to be more neutral and added a lace bow.

I made scrap wood butterflies last year, but these are different because I used twine and wood beads for the body and head.

I have a pile of reclaimed wood from pallets, siding, and barns waiting to be turned into signs as the inspiration strikes. You just can’t beat the texture of weathered, old wood. These are all hand painted, which I find relaxing.

I also changed up my wood bead bees this year. I assembled them differently, added a head to the body, and used lace for the wings. It was actually pretty difficult to figure out how to put them together.

My wood bees with spoon wings were pretty popular last year so I made more using different spoons. Quite a few of them are actually silver plated. I used strips of fabric, twine, and several types of lace to add bows.

I probably went overboard on the blocks, but I was feeling inspired.

Everything was taken to Sunbury Station and I spend an afternoon rearranging and styling the space. I am picky. It takes me way too long! I am pretty happy with the results, though.

To change this up a bit, I moved the crates around and brought back this piano bench that I refinished a few years ago, but first I repainted the top and added stripes.

This plant propagation window frame is also one of my favorite pieces! It is made from a window sash that would have gone above a doorway for air flow between rooms.

I needed more wall pieces so I created these lavender pockets with barn wood and a burlap bag- it even had dark purple stitching along the edge! I added a label and tucked wood bead bees in them too.

Anyway, I love how the space turned out with all of the bright, colorful pieces that coordinate nicely. I have big plans for next month’s theme too!
