Art Gallery Fabrics Marigold
/Art Gallery Fabrics released another new fabric line- Marigold by Maureen Cracknell!
I am trying to be more selective about the sewing projects that I take on, but…
1. Marigold was the girl name that I wanted to use when I was in high school. I was vetoed on it 5 times unfortunately.
2. Maureen Cracknell is a fellow Pennsylvanian! I am hoping to be able to visit her shop sometime this summer!
3. The fabric is sooooo pretty! It is bright and cheerful and I just couldn’t resist!
So, I ended up sewing two new dresses for my beautiful niece. First up is this Ephemeral Blooms Fjell Dress, which is new to the Project Run and Play shop! It is designed by The Eli Monster, who competed in Season 29 this past fall. It is a lovely peasant dress with a pieced front bodice and elasticated back. The lower front panel was the perfect spot to add a Shine Bright Label Co patch, which my niece loved!
The other dress is an Indigo requested by AGF for the Marigold Lookbook and although it is a pattern drafted for knit fabrics, I have made it with woven fabrics several times with no problems. I do size up just a bit. Their linen blend Foraging Flutter Sun made a beautiful, twirly dress that my niece adores!
My newest tactic for finishing curved edges on woven dresses is using the serger on the raw edge and then sewing eyelet lace trim on top. I have lots of it in my stash and the binding on the top edge is sewn on the bias so it curves well.
Of course I wanted to use more labels so I added the Bee Kind woven label to the waistline. I pressed the folded edges upwards to attach it in the seam rather than over an edge. The side seams of both skirts got an Auntie Made tag too. I need to order more of those!
